Personally I purchased every one of these sets individually, had this complete set been available I could have saved a lot of Money.
When I started buying these sets, I purchased the first 5 seasons all at once, then eventually every 6 month or so the next season would be released on DVD
These sets when released new, were nearly 30 dollars a piece, so 1-14 and the Movie Collection probably cost me $450.00 total.
This set can be had with free shipping for less than half of that, but who knows how long it will be available like this?
If you own a few of the season already, you could get this mega set and sell the ones you have, I bet if the condition is above average on your discs, you could get 10-15 dollars a piece for yours.
I also have a hunch that the the later seasons will be tougher to find individually as the years go by, I don't believe these years, especially the final 2 season are viewed as important as other seasons.
I would not be surprised if those, and the movie collection are removed from production, and you can bet that if they become scarce, the secondary market will have a large increase in price. Get them now while you can.
Some of the highlights of Dallas:
Besides the who shot JR seasons, you will also get the wild and wacky dream season 9, Where the entire events of the season and cliffhanger that ended season 8 turn out to be a dream that Pamela Ewing has. In many ways season 9 is the most underrated in the series.
For me, season 9 is sort of a what if season. You get to see Jenna Wade react in different ways to outcomes. Ray and Donna have different outcomes with the expected child. Season 9 as stand alone season works well, and as over the top as it is, has become a real favorite of mine, I know I am in the minority with that opinion.
Some of Priscilla Presley's performances as Bobby's first love Jenna Wade are quite remarkable, her character in many ways is more sympathetic than Pam's, and after her run on the series you begin to seriously doubt whether she, and not Pam, is the one Bobby should have been with.
Also many character actors like Dack Rambo as Jack Ewing and John Beck's portrayal of Billionaire Mark Graison add a lot of depth to the story-telling and quality of the dramatics.
Afton Cooper who is played by Audrey Landers for 84 episodes is one of those characters you are sad to see exit the show, finally proving Cliff Barnes was indeed an idiot.
The season 8 performance of Donna Reed is particularly bad to me, as she is just so darned stiff, has absolutely ZERO chemistry with the other actors, and for my tastes seemed too high-class for what I had been trained to believe Miss Ellie would be. In fact, even now when I re watch the season, I cringe and roll my eyes while finding my self skipping to the next scene.
No one though, could have done what Barbara Bel-Geddes did, and Reed was behind the 8 ball from the start. My Mother joked at the end of the season 8 cliffhanger that at least it was Donna Reed who witnessed Bobby's death, and the real Miss Ellie didn't have to see him die.
Some of the unsung heroes of the show
Other characters apart from the main cast were an integral part of the show: Don Starr's portrayal of Oil Cartel member and wild-cater Jordan Lee was around for nearly every season of the show.
The amorous female cartel member Marilee Stone played by Fern Fitzgerald are woven through the show for great main character interplay for nearly the show's entire run.
Some villainous characters like Jeremy Wendell (William Smithers), when pitted against JR actually make JR a sympathetic character.
Over the years it always astounded me that Larry Hagman never won an Emmy Award for his pitch perfect performance of JR Ewing.
Find out for yourself how good he was throughout the show, his acting never suffered, even when he got Shanghaied in weak story lines involving a shotgun wedding, and then a mental hospital once in later seasons.
